Pollinating insects are of tremendous environmental and economic importance. They are also beautiful and fascinating creatures in their own right. This website aims to provide you with all the information you need to find, catch and identify Scottish pollinators. Importantly, this website also provides information on how to send details of what you find to national recording schemes so that this information can be used to further the understanding and conservation of pollinating insects.
Accessible via the buttons at the top of the screen, the website provides details on studying and recording Scotland's four main groups of pollinator: butterflies, moths, hoverflies and aculeates (bees & wasps). An additional page provides advice on general methods for studying these groups.
The materials used to create the Scottish Pollinators website were bought using funding from Heritage Lottery Fund. The website will continue to grow as time goes on, adding extra information to facilitate the identification and recording process. It is hoped that by providing information about different pollinator groups in one place, those interested in one group might be tempted to expand their interests into another group.
